Common Questions

Reminders arrive late
In Settings, make sure MoveMonkey is allowed to send notifications and has Health and Motion & Fitness access, and that you haven’t closed it in the App Switcher. iPhone doesn’t wake an app you’ve closed, so open MoveMonkey again to resume reminders.

Apple Watch doesn’t tap your wrist during a Focus
While a Focus such as Work or Personal is on, Apple Watch taps your wrist only if that Focus allows notifications from MoveMonkey. iPhone still plays the reminder if the Focus allows Time Sensitive Notifications. To have Apple Watch tap your wrist too:

  1. Go to Settings, tap Focus, then choose a Focus.
  2. Tap Apps, then tap Allow Notifications From.
  3. Tap +, then choose MoveMonkey.

Add it once to each Focus you use while sitting, such as Work or Personal. Then tap Test Reminder in MoveMonkey’s settings to check.

If the Focus uses Silence Notifications From, make sure MoveMonkey is not in it. If your iPhone is silent as well, turn on Time Sensitive Notifications on the same page, then go to Settings, tap Notifications, tap MoveMonkey, and turn on Time Sensitive Notifications.

To have no reminders at all while a Focus is on (Sleep, for example), add MoveMonkey under that Focus’s Focus Filters and turn on Pause Reminders.

Is Apple Watch required?
No. iPhone alone can remind you. If you wear Apple Watch, it detects standing more accurately and reminds you too.

How does MoveMonkey know you’ve been sitting?
Within the reminder hours you set, MoveMonkey counts the time since you last got up and reminds you once you’ve sat for your chosen time (60 minutes by default). When it sees that you’ve been up and moving, or you tap Just Moved, the clock starts over. If you wear Apple Watch, your iPhone and Apple Watch remind you together.

Does it cost anything?
MoveMonkey’s core features are free forever, with no ads.

Which devices does it support?
iPhone with iOS 18 or later. MoveMonkey for Apple Watch requires watchOS 10 or later.

Is Health data uploaded?
No. Your Health data stays on your devices. To remind you on time, the server receives only the reminder times your devices work out from it. See the Privacy Policy.
